My son sent me this fun bed-and-breakfast crafted out of a decommissioned 727 fuselage. The Boeing aircraft saw service for South African Air, but now lives in the tropical canopy 50-feet above the ground.

Located in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, the views alone are worth the stay. Inside the fuselage are two-bedrooms with full wood paneling and furniture, mostly teak from Indonesia, but the wall paneling is from local Costa Rican forests. Quite the extravagance!

Additional Costa Rica Travel Information

And, speaking of Costa Rica, we recently traveled down there for a week-long vacation on the Gold Coast. The water temps were around 83° and the weather was spectacular, it being the dry season.

If the price tag of the 727 is too steep for you, I highly recommend contacting Diana Puckett, the owner of this wonderful house rental located in Playa Grande, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. With three-bedrooms, full-AC, a large kitchen and living room, Casa Veranera was a joy. And, the best part? It is only two short blocks from the beach which also doubles as a national marine park for the turtles that breed there.

Flying around Costa Rica seems quite easy. We checked out the Tamarindo (TMO/MRTM) airport near our rental home and met up with two aerial surveyors mapping the spread of an invasive plant species in the wetlands. I wasn’t able to get a ride as they were reconfiguring their aerial mapping camera, but we chatted a lot about my prior experience with aerial photography in Oregon in the early ’80’s.

Costa Rica has a lot to offer and I’m looking forward to organizing another trip down there soon. If you’d like to combine vacation and flight training, contact me regarding my private flight instruction packages!
